Hi Fam! hello hello hello....where to begin!!?? This week was another fab-u-lous week in the MTC!! I've realized that even though I've spent a lot of time in the scriptures over the past 21 years, I have yet to learn where all the references to all of those really great scriptures are...so I've been trying to learn more of where I can turn to to find answers to questions people might have about the gospel. It's definitely true, it's just a matter of showing them how they can find out for themselves whether it is or not. That's actually been a lesson I've learned this week through teaching.
We've got a system in our district that we do a "progressing investigator" at the beginning of every class (or twice a day), where some companionships act as a continual investigator, while others teach them. It has been a really great experience, and we're getting a lot of practicing for teaching in. This is definitely needed!! It's pretty interesting doing it all in Spanish too. (This crazy teacher in our zone told us that we just need to barf out the Spanish words and let them figure out the chunks-- so wise, right??) haha. But during one of these lessons we were teaching Hno. Adams, our teacher, and he was acting like a non-member whose wife was a member, and she had invited the missionaries over. I found myself trying to convince him of the importance of the gospel, but everything I said just backfired. Very humbling, right?? yes, it was. But, it just made me realize how much faith we really have to have in the Lord. If we do everything we can, and we are being obedient and trying our best, He is going to make up for the rest. He will be able to work with them through the spirit, if they're willing. This, more than any words I'll be able to say, will be the power in bringing people to Christ and having them choose for themselves that He really is the only way we can return to live with Him. This gospel is amazing! We just have to trust in it!
So my district is pretty musical (at least half of us) and Elder Cardon inspired us to try out for a fireside special musical number. So this week we tried out with a song that his mom and aunt actually wrote called "Seek this Jesus." And we made it, and we performed it on Sunday in front of the 2,000 missionaries at the MTC. NBD. More than ever before I'm finding music as such a release! As strong as the spirit is in this place, music just tops it off with a cherry and sprinkles. The song was beautiful, and it was really fun to have the opportunity to do it! We had 5 sisters and 8 elders in total. Mom, you'd be so proud. (Alsooo...side note: Music and the Spoken word on Sunday mornings is right before our Relief Society, and they broadcast it for us. Probably a highlight of the week. Anyone who wanted to could turn it on and watch it with me, if you'd like. It'd be kinda fun!)
This week we got another new sister from Mexico (who has lived in AZ)...and boy does Hermano Ortiz speak fast. It's got Hermana Young really worried because she can't understand a lick of the Spanish that she speaks. But, it's been really fun to have a dictionary staying with us in our room. She's not in our district, but she's a lot of fun and really driven to be on a mission.
I'm trying to think of things that I do on a regular basis, and something that is really exciting (catch the sarcasm) is Hermana Young and I (plus a few other irregular Hermanas) run stairs around the track in the gym. Every morning at 6:00 for half an hour (just in case the "stretching and toning" class on Saturday doesn't cut it) and then in gym time too. It's actually become a really fun way to make to get to talk and practice Spanish with "regular" non-gospel words.
Other than that, I'm doing so well!! I love it hear! Some days are harder than others, but it's character building and strengthening, especially when you turn to the Lord with all of your worries and troubles. I love that they say "If you're not laughing, you're doing something wrong" because my companions and district and zone are all HILARIOUS and I'm having so much fun laughing about the life of a missionary and all of the embarrassing moments you have while teaching (don't worry, this week I asked an investigator if they had prayed as a family since our last visit - like checking up on a commitment - and we definitely hadn't asked them to do it the time before. I was given a very blank look). I love you all SO SO much! HOLLA at everyone for me! The support, love and prayers are worth a million!!
love LOVE love Hermana Kelli
